LAI Video Has “Seoul:” Three Ways We Bring Stories to Life

by Adam Katz
Award Winning Short Video With Creative Techniques

LAI Video is always looking for inspiration from other creative artists. And “seoul_wave,” an award-winning short video produced by filmmaker Brandon Li, immediately caught our eye. Filmed during Li’s month-long stay in Seoul, South Korea, the video embraces innovative creative techniques to portray the city’s sights, sounds, and spirit.

Like seoul_wave, LAI Video uses industry-leading cinematic strategies to support profound creative visions. Here are three techniques that both seoul_wave and our own portfolio of work employ to drive viewers through powerful storytelling experiences.

1. Dynamic Camera Movement

Whether the frame is revolving 360-degrees around Seoul’s residents or spiraling into a cellphone screen, seoul_wave applies a variety of camera angles to expose viewers to novel perspectives. Our team also leveraged dynamic camera movement when producing Jedburgh Technology’s testimonial video, which serves to reinforce the kinesthetic training that the company’s training platform facilitates. In the Mortgage Bankers’ Association’s CREF Careers videos, we used tilted or “Dutch” camera angles to complement the interviewees’ confident body language.

2. Rich Sound Design

In his Director’s Commentary, filmmaker Brandon Li remarks that audio effects added in post-production “reinforce the modern, electronic, futuristic theme” of seoul_wave. A rich sound design also underpins “In the Blink of an Eye,” a video we produced for the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee. Through subtle sound effects, viewers can not only see the world through contractors’ safety-conscious perspective but also hear it through this vantage point.

3. Thoughtful Transitions

Throughout seoul_wave, thoughtful scene transitions produce a cohesive viewing experience, even among the video’s disparate urban and rural settings. LAI Video also constructs purposeful scene transitions that keep viewers engaged in a story and captivated by its visual artistry. In HITT Contracting’s “Stay Humble,” the shuffling of steel-toed boots and leather shoes, as well as the HITT logo, act as visual motifs that unite two workplaces within one company culture.
